![]() ![]() Apparently the roommate she was supposed to have flaked. People think she should have found a cheaper place to live or found a roommate. So what if she didn't truly live off of rice? (It's also pretty terrible to look down from your privileges, all your indulgences and little daily delights, and say that a poor person should have zero.) Ultimately, she was still being paid minimum wage (or very close to it) so she absolutely could not have indulged much. Her pictures online are not representative. You're seeing all the "niceness" of her life, and none of the day-to-day boring stuff. Maybe she had a few small indulgences, but also remember that people tend to put the shinest picture of themselves online. Why shouldn't she? Emotions are not a bad thing, and her emotions aren't particularly uncalled for. Well, why shouldn't it be? So she has emotions - fear, frustration, etc. One might disagree about whether minimum wage should be livable (and just how many sacrifices one should have to make to afford that), but it doesn't seem that objectionable nonetheless. I don't see "entitlement", other than someone who feels entitled to a livable wage. I'm somewhat bewildered by all the backlash about this. She understands that she needs to put in her time before moving up, and she thinks that's fair. ![]() In the letter, she also showed that she's willing to work hard and sacrifice. (Maybe unwise for her future career, but somewhat admirable that she was willing to do it anyway.) She probably knew there's a reasonable chance of being penalized for this, but did it anyway. So she wrote a public letter, explaining the situation and asking for better wages. She's trying to make a change, not just for her but for other people too. She's frustrated and scared of how she'll get by. ![]()
